Collect your DNA samples by following the instructions included with your kit. Then return your samples to DNAQ using the supplied return post envelope.
DNAQ receives your samples, and conducts the requested testing in our internationally accredited laboratory in Brisbane, Australia.
Results are typically emailed within 3-5 days*, from when we receive your samples.
*Turnaround times are calculated from the date we receive ALL samples at our laboratory, and we endeavour to have results out within this timeframe. For a small amount of cases, results may be delayed. This may be due to incorrect paperwork, or if repeat testing is required due to low DNA concentration and/or contamination. If we expect your results will not be out within the anticipated time frame, we will notify you as soon as possible. The easiest way to avoid delays in receiving your results is to carefully follow our DNA sample collection instructions that come with your kit.
Everything needed for the collection will be included in the DNA Testing kit you received from DNAQ.
No. You must ensure that you do not eat or drink anything, or smoke for at least 30 minutes before your collection. We also strongly recommend clients brush their teeth at least 30 minutes prior to the collection, and then rinse their mouth thoroughly with water.
You can still drink water up until the time of collection. In fact, this is preferable as a dry mouth can make it difficult to obtain a sample.
Drinking, eating and smoking can cause contamination of the sample. If the sample is contaminated by food and drink particles, we will be unable to obtain a result from the sample and will require a recollection at an additional charge.
For non-legal testing, you can collect the samples yourself at home. There is no requirement for the sample collection to be witnessed, or for the samples to be collected by a third party.
However, if for peace of mind you would like your samples collected by a third party, a doctor or pathology collector can take the samples for you. We always recommend that clients first approach their local doctor or GP to see if they are willing to assist with the sample collection process. Alternatively, you can also approach your local pathology collection centre. Click here to find a pathology centre near you.
DNAQ offers the convenience of in-house collections at our laboratory in Brisbane, for an additional fee of $40 per person for non-legal cases. Contact us to arrange an appointment.
